Today was an UNsuccessful day for decorating and thift finds. Mr. No Place Like Home and I went to Danville to a used furniture store. Found lovely sofas, tables and knick-knacks and wouldnt you know....they were all spoken for. Placed on HOLD/SOLD/LAY AWAY.
After being somewhat defeated, I came home, and went to some of my favorite blogs for inspiration. LOVE The Old Painted Cottages decorating style. Not my "normal" style, but ready for a change. I have always liked color in my home. So me might say to much color, but I live in Ohio and need color during the long winter months. I am leaning towards painting the living room an Antique White. I am thinking of getting a sofa in brown.
What do you think? Replacing my "lovely" mauve recliner with this funky chair.
Comments? I will be keeping my burlap curtains....which are actually painters drop clothes that my hubby and I made. Yep the good man can sew. Bless him!!!! I hate to sew.
Toying with the idea of painting the ugly floors....maybe just the stair case. Thoughts? You all know I would LOVE to paint the woodwork white, however, Mr says NO WAY. GRRrrr.
I will be posting the before and afters once we start this project.
Open to comments, ideas.
Thanks for checking in......
NO PLACE LIKE HOME......
Hi . My name is Stephanie and I am new to being an author on a blog. I have been an avid follower of many decorating blogs and have become, well addicted. I have found inspiration from many of these sites and thought I would give this a try.
I am a Mom of two wonderful young men. I am married to an amazing man who is in law enforcement. Which is why I named my blog No Place Like Home. After a long, intense day we all like to come HOME where we can feel safe and release the pressures of the day.
Welcome and buckle up for the ride :)

I LOVE that chair! It's definitely my style.
ReplyDeleteYou asked for suggestions, so here are mine:
I'd pick a solid color for accent and instead of pillows that match the chair fabric, I'd get solid color throw pillows for both the chair and sofa. I'd go with a striking color like red, aqua, fuschia, lime, etc. for the accent color.
I'd also get a large picture frame (from Goodwill or some place like that), paint it the accent color, discard the back of the frame and the glass and hang the empty frame on the wall. Inside the frame, hang a seasonal wreath. You can change it with the seasons and still keep the same frame.
I'd paint the baseboards the accent color but I don't think I'd paint the floor unless you're looking for a "shabby chic" look. With your two guys and the dogs, I don't think the painted floor would stay nice for very long.
Are you sorry you asked for my opinion?
Looking forward to reading about and seeing your new place.
Steph,
ReplyDeleteI love the brown couch. Here is a chair we just bought from Target. It's cheap and comes in many patterns (they also give a AAA discount)- and you could get 2 of them and have a seating area across from the couch with a nice ottoman or coffee table in the middle. http://www.target.com/Dolce-Lounge-Chair/dp/B000GKOR4E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&searchView=grid5&keywords=dolce&fromGsearch=true&sr=1-2&qid=1296136621&rh=subjectbin%3A1038614&searchRank=target104545&id=Dolce%20Lounge%20Chair&node=1038576|1287991011&searchSize=30&searchPage=1&searchNodeID=1038576|1287991011&searchBinNameList=subjectbin%2Cprice%2Ctarget_com_primary_color-bin%2Ctarget_com_size-bin%2Ctarget_com_brand-bin&frombrowse=0
And I'm with Deputy Dad- can't paint the woodwork!! It's too valuable! :)
Have fun!! I'm working on some decorating things to post, too.
